Blog Assignment #6 Responding to Using Comparison-Contrast for a Purpose
I'm sure that many other people chose to write about the same essay that I chose, which is Neat People vs. Sloppy People by Suzanne Britt. Being more of a sloppy person than a neat one, I enjoyed reading what she had to say. The essay was written to not only compare and contrast the two, but also to persuade the reader that being a sloppy person is better. It means that we have a life and also, that we live it to its fullest. We don't have time to organize every little detail, whereas a neat person has all the time in the world to do so. Coming to college, however, has made me become more organized than I was back at home in SLC. I clean up after myself...and my roommates because I take pride in the way things look and I know that if someone comes over, they won't be disgusted with our apartment because I took the time to clean it.
I don't think that I am necessarily more of a neat person though, if I am judging by the way Ms. Britt sees it. I am not a bum at heart, I am very sentimental. I have jewelry that I can't part with because it reminds me of the party I was at where I met the man of my dreams, or papers that I wrote when I was in fourth grade that are so well done and it makes me proud to know that I was that smart when I was only ten years old. My closet at home is stuffed full of shirts and dresses I can't part with, even though I've had them for five years and they're way too short or have holes. I don't wear them anymore, but they mean something to me. To me, the process is everything, if I don't learn from doing something, the results don't matter.
I love animals and people. I genuinely care about them. It doesn't matter if they're old or young, ugly or cute, I will play with any animal that comes near me...as long as they're not the dangerous type. I'll never dump my kids off at a boarding school because I want us to be close and have strong personal relationships with each other.
Britt thought this through. She knows her stuff and I would peg her as a sloppy person because of her style of writing and how much she details the way that sloppy and neat people live. Her personality seems strong and independent, but very fun and outgoing, which is how I see myself.
